NEWS Treasury Committee Decided To launch Inquiry Into Business Rates
The submissions deadline is 2 April 2019
Is it time to find out how business rates have affected businesses in the UK since 2017?
I think so!
Business rates are a cost for most businesses, no matter what sector you are in, you will be paying rates on retail shops, offices, Pubs and even holiday homes, of course there are many more…
The local council sends out its business rates bills in February or March each year, so it’s happening now!
That’s why understanding the relationship between business rates and business growth is important.
After looking at the parliament website, I am delighted to see the depth in which the inquiry will cover.
Here are just a few taken from www.parliament.uk Committees page 07.02.2019
The inquiry will cover some of the following
- Reliefs and allowances
- The ability of businesses to pay
- The relationship between Business Rates and the behaviours it drives in business.
- Support growth and encourage competition
- The impact of Business Rates on rental prices
- The impact of Business Rates on property prices
- The problems associated with property-based business taxes
- The impact of changes (proposed and actual) of Business Rates on Local Authorities and Councils, and the High Street
